Gateway Tech School is designed for students who:
►Have plans to pursue a career that may or may not require a four-year college degree
►Are currently (or will soon be) enrolled in an apprenticeship or job certification program
►Are currently (or will soon be) employed and want to continue working while in high school
►Will pursue an Associate Degree from a community or junior college
►Are currently (or will soon be) receiving intensive athletic training several hours a day
►Are currently (or will soon be) receiving intensive training in the arts several hours a day
►Will enter the military after high school graduation
Students attend Gateway Tech School for a period of four (4) hours every day. Based on availability, students choose from a morning (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.) or an afternoon (12 p.m. to 4 p.m.) session.
Because students work at an individualized pace, it is possible for them to finish courses in as little as three (3) weeks (for .5 credits). Students meet with a member of our counseling or administrative staff to develop an individualized credit completion/graduation plan. All students must complete a state-approved graduation plan encompassing credits earned at Gateway and all other schools attended. When students graduate, they receive a diploma equivalent to that received at any other public school in the state. We have a commencement ceremony at the conclusion of the school year in June at which all students who have completed their requirements over the course of the year may participate.
The Gateway Tech program allows students to learn for themselves, but not by themselves. While students complete courses through Odyssey Courseware, they are supported by the presence of teachers who are certified by the state to teach high school students.
