Tech Student Profile
Senior Madison Biddle is keeping her “eye on the ball” as she combines her love of sports with her pursuit of a high school diploma later this year at Gateway Tech High School.
Madison began her high school studies at Gateway College Prep School, but after her sophomore year, found herself getting behind in her lessons. A transfer to the Tech program on Williams Drive in Georgetown allowed her to catch up in several academic areas and still participate in athletics at the prep school, specifically cross country in the fall and softball in the spring.
“I’m now working on my final eight credits towards my high school graduation,” she said. Citing shorter class days, Madison continues her disciplined daily schedule which includes attending Gateway Tech from 10:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. each day. During the fall, she starts cross country practice at 7 a.m. In the spring, she will participate in softball practice at the end of her school day.
Some socialization occurs during breaks and instructors are available in two classrooms to assist in the core curriculum subjects of math, science, language arts and history. “The classes are pretty much self-paced, but there are certain requirements you have to meet,” she said.
Madison hopes to attend Texas A&M- Corpus Christi following her graduation from Gateway Tech and concentrate on a kinesiology degree which will lead to an athletic training career, either in college or for a professional sports team. She is the daughter of Jeff and Stacy Biddle of Round Rock.
Gateway Tech is designed for those students like Madison who desire a challenging and relevant school curriculum that allows for a more flexible school schedule. Anyone interested in learning more about the school should contact the school principal, Jolene Bruce, at 512-868-5299
